Morgan's first big illness

Last Thursday I woke up at my normal hour of 4:30 in the am and got ready for work. At 5 like everyday, I got Morgan up to get her dressed and fed for daycare and noticed that she was on fire. Her legs and everything were so hot, so I took her temp and she was at 103.5!!!! So I gave her some Motrin and feed her, but her fever wasn't going down. You can't take them to daycare if they are over 101, which is fine with me because it seemed that she just wanted to be with one of us. After her fever got better, I headed off to work and Tyson stayed home with her. He said that she did okay, just wanted to be held all the time and wasn't really into eating, which is not like her. After I got home I held her for a few hours and around 430 her fever came back!!! Back the Motrin I went but with no luck her fever was not going down.

This was the position I was in for 5 hours on Thursday:

We gave her a luke warm bath and she was still warm, about 101. I tried to feed her dinner but she wasn't having it, so she went to bed at 630 that night. The next day I got up again and got ready for work, when I got Morgan up again she was at 103!!! So I stayed home and Tyson went to work. She was up 5-9 and then slept from 9-115 straight!!! Her fever would come and go and it seemed like she was getting better!!! I took some pictures of her and you can see she look so sad, there was no sparkle in her eyes!!

Friday night at about 730 she got a 2ND wind and was back to her normal self!! I was thinking whew she is getting better!!!! But, i was wrong, that night she woke up every 2 hours screaming, so I swapped between Tylenol and Motrin every 4 hours. That Saturday Morning I called the nurse again ( I called on Friday too but they told me to wait it out) and she suggested that we take her in. Her DR office is closed on weekends, but we went to an urgent care. The diagnosis was STREP THROAT, no wonder she wanted to sleep all day and not eat. The poor thing. That Saturday I had gotten her to eat a little applesauce but that was it. She slept from 115-630 when I woke her up!!! We gave her a bath and tried to feed her but she still wasn't having it so she was on a liquid diet!!

On Sunday she slept for 12 hours straight thru the night, but you could tell she just didn't have the energy to do anything. Normally she is very active and she would try but then get tired after a few minutes. Again on Sunday she slept for most of the day, she slept from 9-12 noon when I woke her up to feed her and then from 2-530 again I woke her up to feed her. She did manage to eat a banana yesterday so we were starting somewhere.

Here is a pic of her and Dada watching the Superbowl, this is the position we have been in for the past 4 days!!

So Monday is here and I decided to stay home with her for one more day to let the antibiotics do the work that needs to be done as well as to make sure all is well since she still hasn't been wanting to eat much and wants to be held all the time. She is slowly getting back to her self and even gave me a few smiles this morning. She did manage to eat a banana and moved around a little bit more. She is still struggling with her energy but at least the fever is gone, she again right now is napping and has been for the past hour, I am hoping that today she will eat a little bit more and be back to herself by later this week.

I have never felt more stressed out before until this happened. I felt so bad for her and wanted to take her pain away but couldn't!!! When she gives me the smile or giggles a little bit, I feel so much better because I know that she is on her way to recovery!!! I feel bad for anyone whose little one gets this sick as it is not fun to have your baby be in pain like that and all you can do is comfort them and give them medicine, I really hope we won't have to go thru this again, but I know that is not practical, I just hope that it will be a LONG time before it happens again.

Here she is getting some of her energy back:

  1. That isn't fun having a sick baby. It is scary and you just want them to feel better. Hope she is on the mend now.
